Our Commitment to Accuracy
Your Say Ontario is committed to providing Ontario residents with accurate, fair, and complete information on issues that affect their lives. We hold ourselves to the same standard as any reputable Canadian news publisher, and we take our responsibility to readers seriously — especially given the real-world impact of information on YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) topics such as housing rights, healthcare access, and provincial benefits.
We do not publish content that is speculative, unsourced, or designed to mislead. Every article must meet the sourcing and review standards described in this policy before publication.
Sourcing Standards
All factual claims in our articles must be traceable to at least one of the following primary sources:
- Ontario.ca official government publications and legislation
- Statistics Canada (StatsCan) data releases
- Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) reports
- Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) publications
- Ontario Legislative Assembly Hansard records
- Peer-reviewed academic research published in Canadian journals
- Statements from licensed Ontario professionals (lawyers, paralegals, financial planners, healthcare providers)
Secondary sources such as news articles may be cited for context but not as the sole basis for factual claims.
Expert Review Process
Articles that touch on legal, financial, medical, or housing matters are reviewed by a credentialed Ontario professional before publication. The reviewer's name, credentials, and Law Society of Ontario registration number (where applicable) are displayed on each article. Reviewers are independent of the editorial team and are not compensated for the editorial outcome of their review — only for their time.
General articles that do not require professional review are fact-checked by our editorial team against the primary sources listed above. A checklist of verified claims is maintained internally for each published article.
Authorship & Bylines
Every article published on Your Say Ontario carries a named author byline. We do not publish anonymous content. Authors are required to disclose any relevant affiliations, financial interests, or potential conflicts of interest related to the article's subject matter at the top of the piece.
Community Voice submissions are published under the contributor's full name following verification of their Ontario residency. Contributors may request to use a first name and initial only in exceptional circumstances (e.g., personal safety concerns), which are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief on a case-by-case basis.
Editorial Independence
Your Say Ontario maintains complete editorial independence. We are not affiliated with any political party, government ministry, municipal body, or corporate sponsor. No individual, organization, or government entity has ever requested or received the right to review, alter, or approve content before publication.
If sponsored or paid content is ever published on this platform, it will be clearly and prominently labeled as "Sponsored Content" or "Paid Partnership" in accordance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and the Competition Bureau's disclosure requirements.
Advertising, if any, does not influence editorial decisions. Advertisers cannot request coverage or withhold advertising in exchange for editorial treatment.
Corrections & Updates
We take corrections seriously. If a factual error is identified — whether by a reader, a subject of the article, or a member of our team — we investigate promptly. If an error is confirmed, we:
- Correct the article immediately
- Add a clearly labeled correction notice at the top of the article noting what was changed and on what date
- Notify the author
- Log the correction in our internal corrections register
To report an error, email [email protected]. We respond to all correction requests within 48 hours on business days.
Use of Artificial Intelligence
Your Say Ontario does not publish AI-generated articles. AI tools may be used by authors as research aids or for initial drafts, but all published content must be substantially written, reviewed, and verified by a named human author. Any use of AI tools during the writing process is disclosed in the article's author note.
Community Voices Submissions
Community Voice submissions are provided by Ontario residents and represent the views of the individual contributor, not the editorial position of Your Say Ontario. All submissions are reviewed for factual accuracy (claims must be verifiable), compliance with our community standards (no hate speech, harassment, or defamatory content), and relevance to Ontario community issues.
Accepted submissions may be lightly edited for clarity and length. Material changes to meaning require the contributor's written approval before publication.
